So, what does the QuelCast product consist of? Its outer cylinder is made of a polypropylene material that contains intumescent properties and an integrated smoke seal. Upon installation, the collar, complete with its ready-fitted robust lid, is secured to the formwork.
How does it work in the event of a fire? When exposed to high temperatures, the intumescent inside the collar expands. This means it increases in volume and decreases in density.
The pressure within the circular space helps close any gaps left behind as the pipe or cables soften, maintaining the building’s compartmentation.
Smoke is typically the biggest killer in a fire. The cold smoke seal is important. It stops toxic fumes from moving into areas not directly affected by the fire.
