Darryl Wells

Commercial & Development Director

Meet Darryl, our Commercial Director, who talks about the importance of research and development at Quelfire, as well how our values shape the company culture.

Background

I joined Quelfire in June 2012 after finishing my A-levels, when Quelfire was a very small team. In the first few years I have spent a significant amount of time getting to know the BS and EN passive fire protection standards, as well as the testing and certification requirements, which allowed me to improve existing products and the development and testing of new products.

I have also helped take the sales and marketing activity to a new level, including giving a complete refresh to our brand in 2017, resulting in our new logo and iconic orange colour that makes us stand out in the industry.

Role

My role involves everything that makes the Quelfire vision become a reality: interpreting market trends and adapting to industry changes, identifying markets to develop and focus on, implementing strategies to drive revenue and, ultimately, business growth, managing product development and service development, and setting and delivering the company plan alongside other directors.

I am also involved in negotiating ongoing contracts with suppliers as well as providing technical support myself.

Favourite projects

My favourite R&D projects are developing and testing our products together as a system to extend their scope of application, as well as expanding our product range with CE certification. Constant innovation and investment in research and development have enabled Quelfire to achieve an 80% growth in 2018 and helps us maintain our market leadership.

What he likes about working for Quelfire

We have a fantastic team culture with everyone embodying our core values. Consistency, reliability, honesty, and loyalty are much needed and rare values in the fire protection industry, setting us apart from competition and making us stronger. Quelfire also cultivates a win-win culture; if our customers win, so do we.

What he enjoys doing when not working

If it’s summertime, then it has to be paddleboarding in Anglesey or the lake district for me!
