Insulated Fire Sleeve | QIF

Description

The QIF insulated fire sleeve is designed to firestop combustible plastic and non-combustible metal pipes through walls and floors.

Suitable for 15 – 160mm diameter pipes, for plasterboard partitions, and concrete walls and floors, the QIF can be used alongside the QuelStop Fire Batt System to ensure effective compartmentation.

Requiring no additional sleeving or mechanical fixings makes the fire sleeve a simple and quick-to-install product. It is supplied in 300mm lengths that can be cut down to size and allows thermal movement of the pipe, while maintaining the thermal insulation.

In a fire scenario, the intumescent material of the insulated fire sleeve forms a robust carbonaceous char, closing any openings. The sleeve’s reinforced outer layer prevents the intumescent from expanding outwards, ensuring the pressure remains confined within the circular area.

Standards & Approvals

  • Tested to BSEN 1366-3.
  • Up to 4 hour fire rating.

The QIF Insulated Fire Sleeve can be used around both metal and plastic pipes.

QIF Insulated Fire Sleeve are suitable for use in concrete floors and various wall constructions including solid concrete masonry/block walls and flexible fire rated plasterboard partitions with and without QuelStop Fire Batt.

Fire ratings depend on the substrate and services so refer to the technical data and installation details for full details.

The QIF are primarily made from a mineral wool material, so they will provide a degree of thermal insulation and thermal movement to the pipe as it passes through the fire compartment, so no extra sleeves are required. Other pipe insulations can then be jointed onto the ends of the QIF once installed.

The QIF is approx. 25mm thick, so holes should be cut or drilled 50mm bigger than the Internal Diameter (ID) of the sleeve. Refer to the specification table below for full details.

Product Info & Features

Product Information
Property Details
Composition The QIF Insulated Fire Sleeve is supplied as a 300mm long sleeve and consists of a reinforced foil containing an insulating mineral fibre and graphite intumescent material. When exposed to heat, the intumescent material expands and exerts pressure on the penetration.
Fire Performance For plastic pipes, as the material softens, the intumescent forms a carbonaceous char, crushing the melting pipe and forming a fire-resistant plug.
When used around non-combustible metal pipes, the intumescent material chars around the pipe, preventing the passage of fire into the adjoining compartment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the QIF Insulated Fire Sleeve used for?

The QIF is designed to maintain fire compartmentation where combustible or non-combustible pipes pass through fire-rated walls and floors.

How does the QIF provide fire protection?

It consists of a rock fibre core lined with a graphite-based intumescent material. In a fire, the intumescent expands, closing the gap left by a melting pipe and reinstating the fire barrier.

How is the QIF installed?

The sleeve is simply slid onto or retrofitted around the pipe, sealed with the foil tape provided, and finished with QuelStop Intumescent Acrylic Sealant. Full installation instructions are available in the PDF guide.
