Can the QWR Fire Collar be used together with plasterboard ceilings/timber frames? Product Information

The QWR Fire Collar has been tested generally in accordance with the BS EN 1366-3: 2009 accreditation before being fitted to plasterboard ceilings and timber frames.

The BS EN 1366-3:2009 fire-resistance tests are a vital method of evaluation which assesses a penetration seal – it must have the ability to maintain the fire resistance of a separating element at the position it has been penetrated by a service.

Some penetration seals used for sealing gaps are excluded from this standard and these include:

  • chimneys
  • air ventilation systems
  • fire-rated ventilation ducts
  • fire-rated service ducts
  • Shafts
  • smoke extraction ducts.

Mixed penetration seals are not excluded from this standard.

The purpose of BS EN 1366-3 is to assess a number of things:

  1. The effect of such penetrations on the integrity and insulation performance of the separating element concerned
  2. The integrity and insulation performance of the penetration seal
  3. The insulation performance of the penetrating service or services, and where necessary, the integrity failure of a service.

It’s not the intention of this test to provide quantitative information on the rate of smoke, hot gas leakages or the transmission or generation of fumes. This test is also not intended to supply any information on the ability of the penetration seal to withstand stress caused by movements or displacements of the penetrating services. This test does not assess the risk of fire spreading downwards, which may be caused by burning material dripping through a pipe down to the floor below.
